Fall Farmers Market Fruits and Veggies
What Produce is in Seaon this Fall?
It’s hard to believe that the fall season is quickly approaching. Summers are so unnecessarily short in the good ol’ Midwest, but hey, we’re used to it! As the farmers market season is slowly wrapping up and on its tail end, we are excited about all the very special fruits and veggies that will be in season very soon. The vast majority of farmers markets are only during the summertime, typically ending sometime in September or October. However, more and more all year around venues are popping up becuase there is such great demand for local farm fresh food!
Here’s a sneak peek of what’s in store for you in the months of September, October and November! We'll warn you in advance, there's not a ton of fruit options, but the fruit on the list are definitely fall staples and worth purchasing before the seasons over.
Bell Peppers Broccoli Carrots Cabbage
Winter squash Sweet potatoes
Swiss Chard Tomatoes
Fall farmers market produce is definitely more hearty since the sweet berries of the earlier season are long gone. Its time to think apple cider (we’re fine if its hot or cold), pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, corn on the cob, butternut squash soup, and yummy fresh tomatoes to throw in your chili.
Now we’re not trying to rush summer out of here, but we all know what’s coming around our corner and cannot postpone the inevitable. It’s about that time kids go back to school, Labor Day comes and goes, and we’re on our merry way to holiday season!
